In 2008, Dr Aron Mifsud Bonnici and Dr Joanne Vella Cuschieri set up a law partnership drawing on their many years of experience and strengths in commercial law, civil law, planning law and employment law. The latter founding partner accepted a role in the judiciary in 2014. Dr Aron Mifsud Bonnici is a corporate lawyer with over 20 years' experience in business law, administrative law, industrial relations, privatisations, immigration law and media law. Throughout his career, he has consistently practiced as an advocate in the Superior Courts of Malta. He is proficient in various technical and legal aspects of information technology, media and communications.
He is a leading expert on Maltese and European employment law and on the wider legal aspects of human resources. He has been retained by clients to provide legal assistance in the collective bargaining process and often takes a leading role in all phases of negotiations between employers and employee representatives. He co-authored a report commissioned by the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development intended to kick-start an update of employment legislation in Malta and is regularly consulted on various aspects of labour and immigration law reform. He has been consulted by trade unions on employment policy, actively participating in key strategy meetings and advising on the social impact of current and proposed employment policies, compliance with EU legislation, as well as potential remedies and new directions.
Dr Mifsud Bonnici is a leading advisor on Asian investment in Malta, and has assisted in setting up fruitful joint ventures between business players in the EU and Asia. He holds a doctorate in laws (LL.D.) from the University of Malta, is an alumnus of the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), and is a member of the European employment law experts network (NETLEX).
